Transparency report and warrant canary

Published from day one, before there is anything to report — because a report that appears only once there is a problem is not a report.

Pre-launch. Status Post is not yet operating a member network, so the counts below are zero and the canary is in its initial state. This page updates on a fixed schedule once the network opens, whether or not anything happened.

What "data produced" can even mean here

A demand for the identity behind a story cannot be satisfied, because the record does not exist — see what we store. What could be produced is the short list on that page, and we will say plainly, per period, whether we produced any of it.

The middle column counts accounts the demand named, not accounts we identified. A demand can name an account — it is a thing with a page and a sign-in. What it cannot do is start from a story and arrive at one.

Employer requests

Hospitals and health systems are not customers here and get no special channel. A request from an employer for the identity of a member is answered the same way as any other: we do not have it. Counts of such requests appear in the table above once there are any.

Warrant canary

As of the date on this page, Status Post has not received a national security letter, a FISA order, or any legal demand accompanied by a gag order. This statement will be removed — not amended, removed — if that ceases to be true.

Removal of the paragraph above is the signal. It will not be replaced with an explanation.
